Indonesia debates digital child protection regulations

Discussions regarding child protection in Indonesia's digital landscape are intensifying, particularly concerning the effectiveness of age verification on digital platforms. There is growing concern that age limits may serve as mere technical formalities rather than robust safeguards against underage access to content.

Proposed regulatory frameworks, such as Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 regarding the Governance of Electronic System Implementation for Child Protection (PP Tunas), aim to address these issues. Experts suggest that effective digital protection requires a coordinated effort between state policy, individual awareness, and community support, rather than relying solely on technological features.
