Indonesia Deputy Health Minister warns of early mental health signs

Indonesian Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono has identified several early warning signs of mental health disorders that the public should recognize for earlier intervention and prevention.

According to Harbuwono, mental health issues manifest in three primary areas: physical, emotional, and behavioral. Physical indicators are often the most easily recognized, specifically persistent sleep disturbances, recurring physical weakness, and significant changes in body weight. Weight fluctuations may occur due to a loss of appetite or, conversely, excessive eating as a coping mechanism for depression.

Emotional and behavioral signs include mood swings, irritability, excessive anxiety or overthinking, panic, restlessness, and a loss of interest in surroundings or social withdrawal. The Ministry of Health emphasizes the importance of monitoring these symptoms, particularly when they occur continuously or repeatedly.
