Indonesia promotes worker protection and AI skills at ASEAN forum

At the 29th ASEAN Labour Ministers' Meeting in Bangkok, Indonesia's Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, advocated for enhanced skill development and worker protection to address the rapid evolution of the global workforce. Key priorities include upskilling and reskilling to navigate challenges posed by artificial intelligence, digitalization, and shifting industrial demands.

Indonesia emphasized the importance of protecting migrant workers, particularly in the fishing sector, and strengthening partnerships with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The nation aims to ensure that technological transformations create opportunities rather than leaving workers behind.

Additionally, Indonesia is working with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve the quality and protection of Indonesian workers in Japan. This collaboration focuses on enhancing training facilities and aligning worker competencies with Japanese industrial needs, noting a significant increase in participants for technical training and specified skilled worker programs.
