Indonesia Ministry of Communication and Digital outlines digital resilience goals
The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is implementing several initiatives to strengthen national digital resilience and connectivity. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of monitoring digital infrastructure quality to prevent connectivity gaps between urban and rural areas, noting that while coverage is near 99 percent, service quality remains suboptimal in non-commercial regions.
To improve affordability, the ministry aims to expand fixed broadband networks, targeting high-speed internet of up to 100 Mbps at costs between Rp140,000 and Rp200,000 per month. Additionally, the National Data Center (PDN) has reached over 490 tenants, including various government agencies, with 69 low-risk applications already live as of September 2026.
Regarding digital governance, Minister Meutya Hafid warned that AI algorithms must not homogenize Indonesia’s cultural diversity, urging that technology reflect the nation’s regional characters. Furthermore, the ministry is calling for greater transparency from electronic system providers (PSE) regarding content moderation and algorithms, including the provision of appeal mechanisms for content creators to protect freedom of expression.
