Indonesia develops global-standard biodiversity credit instruments

The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH/BPLH) is developing global-standard biodiversity credit instruments to attract credible green financing from the private sector. Minister Moh. Jumhur Hidayat inaugurated the International Workshop on Biodiversity Credit Implementation in Jakarta to advance this initiative.

As one of the world's most biodiverse nations, Indonesia aims to transform its ecosystem, species, and genetic resource potential into effective economic instruments and policies. The development of these credits is based on three core principles: scientific integrity, social inclusion, and transparent governance.

The government emphasizes that achieving global biodiversity targets requires private sector investment in community-based conservation. The policy framework intends to recognize local and indigenous communities as frontline guardians of nature and holders of traditional knowledge, ensuring that the economic benefits of nature preservation are distributed equitably.
