Indonesia pushes Digital Population Identity integration

Indonesian regional governments are accelerating the implementation of Digital Population Identity (IKD) to support the digitalization of social protection programs. In Sumedang, the Education Office has instructed school principals to activate their IKD and act as agents for social protection registration between August 26 and 31, 2026.

In Jember, local authorities are working to increase IKD adoption, noting that only 130,000 out of two million residents currently hold the digital identity. The district has joined a pilot project to integrate IKD with social assistance programs, with social services providing assistance to residents without smartphones to ensure they are included in the digital system.

At the national level, the Directorate of Regional Population Data Integration is pushing for deeper data integration to improve public services. Officials emphasize that the goal is to ensure accurate data for regional development and to reduce bureaucracy at the village and sub-district levels through mobile-based administration.
