Cibinong Prison luxury housing cluster demolished in Indonesia

Authorities in Indonesia have demolished a cluster of unauthorized luxury residences discovered within the Cibinong prison complex in Bogor. The discovery followed an inspection by the Ombudsman, which revealed high-end apartments equipped with air conditioning, televisions, refrigerators, and sofas. The facilities also included a fully equipped gym, a swimming pool, and a golf simulator under construction.

Investigations indicated that some inmates, including businessmen serving corruption sentences, were using these accommodations. The luxury enclave was reportedly self-funded and lacked both state budget allocation and proper construction permits. Furthermore, an unlocked exit gate was found, posing a significant security risk for escapes.

In response to the scandal, the government suspended the prison director and four other high-ranking officials. Additionally, Mashudi, the Director General of Corrections, resigned from his position, citing moral responsibility for the oversight. The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections is continuing to investigate the source of the funding used to build the illegal structures.
