Automotive sector sees electric vehicle surge at GIIAS 2026
The GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 has highlighted a significant shift toward electrification in the Indonesian automotive market. Toyota-Astra Motor reported 6,175 vehicle orders, with electric and hybrid vehicles (xEV) accounting for 56% of total bookings. Key contributors included the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid and Veloz Hybrid, while the New Hilux also saw strong interest in the commercial segment.
Other manufacturers are also focusing on the electric vehicle ecosystem. VinFast announced its participation in GIIAS Surabaya 2026, aiming to present a comprehensive ownership experience including charging and maintenance. Changan Indonesia reported strong interest in its Nevo Q05 electric SUV, which recorded 876 orders during GIIAS, with deliveries expected to begin in early September 2026.
In environmental management, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported managing 14,562.40 tons of operational waste throughout 2025, including 2,683.81 tons of hazardous (B3) waste. Meanwhile, in Depok, the local government is preparing a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plant with a 1,000-ton daily capacity to address the overloading of the Cipayung landfill.
