Indonesia Election Commission Helicopter Use Triggers DKPP Ethics Hearing
The Election Commission Honours Board (DKPP) convened a disciplinary hearing on 29 June 2026 in Jakarta to examine alleged breaches of the election ethics code by senior KPU officials. The case concerns KPU member Parsadaan Harahap, West Java KPU member Abdullah Sapi’i, and KPU Secretary‑General Bernad Dermawan Sutrisno, who are accused of renting a helicopter to attend the inauguration of more than 1,000 KPPS members in Cidaun, Cianjur, on 25 January 2024. Complaint filers allege the flight violated principles of efficiency and proper budget management, arguing the site was reachable by road.
During the hearing, Abdullah Sapi’i identified the passengers on the flight: himself, Parsadaan Harahap, DKPP member Tio Aliansyah and Benu, the personal secretary of Parsadaan. The helicopter departed from the Aryaduta Hotel in Bandung, flew to Cidaun, and returned to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta after the ceremony. The board is assessing potential disciplinary action.
