Indonesia enhances disaster preparedness through regional drills and teacher training
Disaster preparedness efforts are being intensified across Indonesia through both local mobilization and educational initiatives. In Banyumas, approximately 700 personnel from the TNI, Polri, BPBD, Basarnas, and various volunteer organizations participated in a large-scale disaster readiness drill at the Serayu Moveable Weir. The exercise aimed to strengthen cross-sector coordination, equipment readiness, and command systems to manage potential disasters effectively.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has launched training programs for teachers and educational staff in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Developed in collaboration with partners like Save the Children and the Indonesian Psychological Association, the training focuses on disaster mitigation, safety procedures, and providing psychosocial support to students following a disaster. The initiative seeks to integrate disaster risk awareness into the core competencies of educators to ensure school safety and continuity of learning.
