Indonesia Environment Minister advances green policies and waste management

Indonesia's Environment Minister, Moh Jumhur Hidayat, has pledged to implement the green policies outlined by President Prabowo Subianto to ensure environmental preservation leads to national prosperity. The Ministry of Environment is prioritizing the protection of natural resources and social justice to ensure a sustainable transition that does not burden future generations.

In support of these goals, Hidayat emphasized the need for a stronger management ecosystem for medical and hazardous waste. He identified three essential pillars for this system: traceability, waste mass balance, and consistent law enforcement. These measures aim to prevent pollution and management abuses by ensuring all waste streams are accounted for.

During a visit to a waste processing facility operated by PT Prasadha Pamunah Limbah Industri (PPLI), Hidayat highlighted the risks associated with the supply chain of used medical materials. He stressed that such materials must undergo proper decontamination and sterilization before being recycled or reused to prevent reckless trading and environmental hazards. He also urged waste generators to establish direct contracts with certified processors.
