Indonesia expands creative economy via IP financing and industry events
The creative economy in Indonesia is seeing increased opportunities through the use of intellectual property (IP) as fiduciary collateral for business financing. Legal expert Ari Juliano Gema noted that the digital economy allows MSMEs and creative actors to commercialize works such as music, film, fashion, and culinary products through digital platforms, turning IP into viable economic assets.
To support this, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has issued Regulation Number 19 of 2025 to ease financing access for micro, small, and medium enterprises. Under the Creative Economy Law, financing can be facilitated through fiduciary guarantees on IP, as well as through contracts and receivables within the creative sector.
In Jakarta, the development of the creative ecosystem is being further bolstered by events like Indonesia Comic Con 2026. Celebrating its tenth year with the theme ‘A Decade of Pop Culture Fiesta’, the event aims to connect creators, industry players, and the government across sectors including comics, toys, film, music, games, and cosplay to expand market access and industry networks.
