Indonesia expands education programs for disadvantaged youth

Imam Wihdan Zarkasyi, a Golkar faction leader in Kediri, endorsed an enhanced mobile‑library service that visits schools, parks and public venues on weekends. He suggested locating the library at sports complexes to attract visitors, adding activities such as storytelling, health checks, child games and nutrition education, describing the concept as “literacy amid activity.”

President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the Sekolah Rakyat initiative, stressing the need to build mental resilience, discipline and moral character among low‑income students. The program, supported by Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, has enrolled thousands of learners, reporting gains in confidence, self‑esteem and social cohesion.

Both efforts aim to broaden access to books and character education for Indonesia’s underprivileged children, seeking to raise literacy rates and foster well‑rounded development.
