Indonesia expands electricity access in West Java via BPBL and Lisdes programs

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), in collaboration with PT PLN (Persero), is working to expand electricity access in West Java through the Village Electricity (Lisdes) and New Electricity Connection Assistance (BPBL) programs.

Minister of ESDM Bahlil Lahadalia recently inaugurated new connections in Muara Baru Village, Karawang Regency. The BPBL program specifically targets low-income households by providing free home electrical installations, operating certificates (SLO), connection fees for 900 VA capacity, and an initial electricity token worth Rp 100,000.

In West Java, the government aims to provide BPBL assistance to 25,000 households in 2026, with 12,327 already completed. The target is projected to increase to 30,000 households in 2027. While Lisdes focuses on expanding the reach of the electrical grid, BPBL ensures that underprivileged families can afford to connect to that grid. PLN has committed to supporting this through infrastructure development, including medium voltage networks to reach remote hamlets.
