Indonesia expands farmer training for palm oil and coconut value‑chain development

Technical training on sustainable palm‑oil cultivation was delivered on 27 July 2026 to 149 participants from Wajo, South Sulawesi. The program, organized by the Akademi Komunitas Perkebunan Yogyakarta (AKPY) together with the Badan Pengelola Dana Perkebunan (BPDP) and the Directorate General of Plantations (Ditjenbun), is part of the 2026 Human‑Resources Development for Plantations initiative. It emphasized improved seed use, soil management, fertilisation, climate‑change adaptation and the goal of creating more independent, productive growers.

In the neighboring province of South Sulawesi, the PKK leadership in the Selayar Islands, under Hj. Tri Yanti Rahmawati Natsir, coordinated with the BESTARI Saintek research team of Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Pangkajene Kepulauan. Their "The Green Gold Kelapa Selayar" program provides training for women on converting coconut waste into natural dyes and other value‑added products, promoting downstream processing and entrepreneurship. Both initiatives illustrate Indonesia's effort to strengthen agricultural human resources, enhance sustainability, and expand economic roles for women in the palm‑oil and coconut sectors.
