Indonesia's BULOG secures 5.2 million tons of rice while supporting farmer harvests

The state grain board BULOG reported a record 5.17 million tons of rice in its national reserves as of 23 June 2026, the highest level in history. The stock underpins emergency food aid, subsidised rice programmes and price‑stabilisation measures, especially ahead of an anticipated El Niño impact. BULOG has already distributed 1.02 million tons of rice to 33.2 million families through the national food‑assistance programme.

BULOG is also expanding its role as an offtaker for farmers. In Merauke, Papua Selatan, the agency will operate new warehouses of up to 5 000 tons equipped with dryers, and the government has earmarked Rp1.3 trillion for agricultural infrastructure, seed, machinery and rice‑milling units to ensure that harvested padi is absorbed at fair prices.

Parallel local initiatives aim to diversify food security. A community‑service team from Universitas PGRI Semarang is helping turn Jatirejo village into a sustainable educational tourism destination, providing training, digital‑marketing support and solar‑panel installations. In the same city, the GP Ansor youth organisation harvested a large corn crop, praised by Semarang mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti as a model of youth‑led agricultural empowerment.
