Indonesia expands health programs: BNI tackles stunting in West Java, BPJS boosts JKN activity in Riau Islands

Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has launched a three‑month "Desa Sehat Bebas Stunting" program in four villages of Pangalengan, Bandung Regency, West Java. The initiative provides supplemental nutrition packages to 65 children at risk of stunting, 12 pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency, and 50 teenage girls, along with health education and regular monitoring. The area’s stunting prevalence stands at 24.1%, above the provincial average, prompting the bank to partner with local government and health services.

The BPJS Kesehatan agency reports that the active participation rate of the National Health Insurance (JKN) scheme in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, reached 82% in June 2026, surpassing the national target of 80%. Coverage in the city is 97.86%, but the region has not yet met the 98% threshold for Universal Health Coverage. Challenges include outdated population records and low public awareness. BPJS and local authorities are conducting door‑to‑door registration drives and data verification to bring the remaining residents into the scheme.
