Indonesia expands immigration autogate facilities in Semarang and Batam
The Directorate General of Immigration is expanding the use of autogate technology across several Indonesian transit points to improve efficiency. At Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, 10 autogate units have been inaugurated, with six located in the arrival area and four in the departure area. These gates utilize face recognition and Border Control Management technology, allowing for processing times of approximately 15 to 25 seconds per passenger. The system is available to both Indonesian citizens and foreign nationals holding electronic passports with e-VoA or eVisa.
In Batam, immigration authorities are planning to add more autogate facilities at Bengkong and Sekupang ports to accelerate inspections. As of August 2026, 22 autogate units are already operational across four checkpoints in the Batam region, including Batam Centre, Citra Tritunas Harbour Bay, Hang Nadim Airport, and Sekupang. Data from January to August 2026 shows that over 1.7 million crossings were processed through these automated facilities in Batam.
