Indonesia expands Islamic online learning with Pequsah launch; Belitung parliament pushes for fair school admissions

On 6 June 2026, the digital Islamic school Pesantren Online Pequsah was officially launched in Tangsel, Indonesia. The program aims to provide flexible, online Qur'an memorisation and religious studies for families, allowing parents to deepen their own knowledge alongside their children. Dr Agung Solilhin, representing Pequsah, emphasized that “the home is the primary madrasah” and highlighted the need for parental involvement in shaping a religious environment.

In the same period, the Belitung Regional Parliament (DPRD) called for a transparent and equitable implementation of the new Student New Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/27 school year. Chairperson Vina Cristyn Ferani warned that last year’s admissions saw discriminatory practices and urged the authorities to ensure the process is accountable, free from illegal interference, and accessible to every child regardless of ethnicity, religion, or social group.
