Indonesia expands Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih fishing village program

The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is expanding the ‘Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih’ (KNMP) program to several regions to bolster the fishing industry and local economies.

In Aceh Jaya, three locations have been designated for development with a total budget of Rp16.8 billion. These sites include Panton Makmur Village, Gle Jong Village, and Ujong Muloh Village. The project includes facilities such as ship docking areas, cold storage, and mini ice factories. The developments follow two models: a ‘hub’ type with comprehensive marine facilities and a ‘buffer’ type designed to meet specific local needs.

In Bangkalan, East Java, five locations have been targeted for the 2026 KNMP development cycle, including Tengket Village in the Arosbaya District. Local officials, including Bangkalan Regent Lukman Hakim, are monitoring progress to ensure the facilities support increased productivity and food security by improving the processing and distribution of fish catches.
