Indonesia expands Kampung Sejahtera welfare pilots in Batang and Tana Toraja

The Batang Regency government launched the "Perubahan Batang Sejahtera" project to curb the rise of people with social welfare problems (PMKS). The initiative creates local technical implementation units (UPTD) within the social services department to bring assistance closer to residents across several districts, with a target to lower the PMKS ranking to 23 of 35 regencies by the end of 2025.

In South Sulawesi, the village of Lembang Palipu’ in Tana Toraja was selected as one of eight pilot "Kampung Sejahtera" sites by the Ministry of Social Affairs. Seventy‑seven participants, including social welfare pillars and beneficiary groups, attended a three‑day training run by the Balai Besar Pendidikan dan Pelatihan Kesejahteraan Sosial (BBPPKS) Makassar to build capacity for sustainable economic independence and community empowerment.
