Indonesia expands Muntok White Pepper exports to global markets

Indonesia has launched a significant export initiative for Muntok White Pepper from the Bangka Belitung Islands. A recent shipment of 8.2 metric tons, valued at approximately Rp1.21 billion (US$67,870), was sent to the Netherlands via Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok Port.

To further expand the reach of this flagship commodity, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is working to market the pepper to 1,200 restaurants across 63 countries. The ministry has organized 1,300 local farmers into a plantation cluster managed by PT Cinquer Agro Nusantara (CAN), which oversees 1,000 hectares of land with an annual production capacity of 500 metric tons.

Data from the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) indicates a rising trend in exports. In 2025, the province exported 1,370 tons of white pepper worth Rp180 billion. Through June 2026, exports reached 919.5 tons, representing a 25.75 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year. The ministry is utilizing the SAPA UMKM digital platform to assist small businesses with licensing, financing, and global market access.
