Indonesia expands rural electrification and launches national hydrogen ecosystem
Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said about 11,000 villages still lack electricity and the government has completed electrification in roughly 1,400 villages through the 2025 Village Electricity Program. He noted President Prabowo Subianto will inaugurate the next phase on Aug. 14 and reiterated the goal of providing power to every village and hamlet by 2029.
At the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit in Jakarta, PLN (Persero) reaffirmed its commitment to building a national hydrogen ecosystem. Lahadalia emphasized hydrogen’s strategic role in the energy transition, citing Indonesia’s ample feedstock and the need for technology, market, investment and regulatory support to accelerate development.
