Indonesia expands sports investment through new licensing agreement
Indonesia has formalized a new partnership between its Ministry of Investment and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to expand business activities within the national sports sector. On August 28, Minister of Investment Rosan Perkasa Roeslanina and Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir signed a memorandum of understanding to coordinate investment development and business licensing.
The agreement integrates sports-related investments into Indonesia’s existing risk-based national licensing framework and the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. This cooperation will facilitate regulatory coordination, compliance monitoring, and the exchange of licensing data between the two ministries.
Minister Thohir noted that the global sports industry is valued at approximately US$521 billion, with an annual growth rate of about 8%. Additionally, he estimated the global sports tourism market at nearly US$600 billion. The Indonesian initiative aims to link sports activities with tourism, events, and other commercial services to drive economic growth.
