Indonesia expands teacher qualification and civil servant opportunities

The Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is implementing several initiatives to improve teacher welfare and academic qualifications. Under the Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program (PKA), the number of participating teachers is increasing from 12,500 to 150,000. This expansion utilizes the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mechanism, allowing teachers to complete S1 or D4 degrees by having their professional experience recognized.

Additionally, Minister Abdul Mu'ti announced that non-ASN (non-civil servant) teachers will have opportunities to take tests to become civil servants (PNS) or government employees with work agreements (PPPK). Those who do not pass these tests will maintain their status as non-ASN teachers, with salaries supported by School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds.

Further policy shifts include transitioning all part-time PPPK teachers to full-time status by 2027, with salaries paid by the central government. These measures align with President Prabowo Subianto's directives to enhance teacher capacity and ensure high-quality education through increased training and improved economic security for educators.
