Indonesia expands tourism reach through local development and Indian market missions

Indonesia is actively promoting its diverse tourism sectors through both local development and international business expansion. In South Sulawesi, the Appalarang Tinadung destination in Ara Village has grown into a notable site featuring limestone cliffs and clear waters. Originally developed by Amiruddin Rasyid in 2011, the area has overcome previous infrastructure challenges regarding road access and clean water to attract both domestic and international visitors.

In Riau, the Tanjung Datuk area near the Siak River offers historical tourism, linked to World War II-era railway construction during the Japanese occupation.

On the international front, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is strengthening ties with the Indian market. Through the Sales Mission Pune 2026 held in India, the Ministry facilitated business-to-business meetings between Indonesian tourism providers and Indian travel agents. The mission showcased various destinations, including Bali, Borobudur, and Labuan Bajo, with an estimated transaction potential of approximately Rp12.8 billion (USD 721,100).
