Indonesia experiences multiple natural disasters including forest fires and floods

Indonesia is facing various natural disasters across several provinces, including significant forest and land fires (karhutla) and flood-related infrastructure damage.

In Sulawesi, forest fires affected four hectares in Sinjai, South Sulawesi, and 10 hectares in Tojo Una-Una, Central Sulawesi. A larger fire covering 60 hectares occurred on Mount Ranindi in Sigi, Central Sulawesi, reportedly caused by community activities related to damar tree management. Local disaster management agencies (BPBD) are conducting assessments and firefighting efforts in these areas.

In West Sumatra, heavy flooding has damaged several drinking water supply systems (SPAM) in Padang, including the Guo Kuranji, Palukahan, and Gunung Pangilun facilities. The damage at the Guo Kuranji facility, which serves approximately 10,000 households, included a breached intake building and a severed 150-meter transmission pipe. The Ministry of Public Works is working to restore infrastructure and ensure the continuity of water services for the affected residents.
