Indonesia explores deep sea mineral water industry potential

Indonesia is being encouraged to develop its deep sea mineral water (AMLD) industry to address growing water scarcity. With the National Maritime Day observed on September 23, experts highlight the strategic potential of utilizing Indonesia's vast maritime resources for sustainable water supply.

Bappenas projects that the proportion of Indonesian regions facing water scarcity will increase from 6.0 percent in 2000 to 9.6 percent by 2045, with Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara facing the highest pressure. AMLD, sourced from depths between 200 and 1,500 meters and purified through desalination, offers a consistent alternative to conventional water sources.
