Indonesia Extends Civil Servants' One-Day‑a‑Week Remote Work Policy to September 2026

The Indonesian government has prolonged the one‑day‑a‑week work‑from‑home (WFH) arrangement for civil servants (ASN) until the end of September 2026. The extension, announced by Muhammad Qodari, head of the Government Communications Agency, is presented as part of broader bureaucracy reform aimed at modernising public administration, improving operational efficiency and saving energy. Essential public services such as health, education, civil registration and licensing will continue to operate on all working days.

At the same time, Manpower Minister Yassierli highlighted a shift toward a skills‑first labour market, saying employers are increasingly valuing practical abilities over formal degrees. The move is intended to boost Indonesia’s competitiveness and economic resilience as the country recorded 5.29% GDP growth in Q2 2026 and pursues an eight‑percent growth target by 2029 under President Prabowo Subianto.
