Indonesia fields 432 athletes for Asian Games 2026 as football omitted

Indonesia will send a delegation of 432 athletes, supported by 148 coaches and 32 Chef de Mission officials, to the Asian Games in Aichi‑Nagoya, Japan, scheduled for 19 September to 4 October 2026. The National Olympic Committee of Indonesia confirmed participation in 35 of the 43 sports contested, but football will not be part of the team because the country did not meet the Asian Football Confederation’s qualification limit of 16 teams.

The Indonesian contingent will focus on traditional medal‑winning sports such as badminton, archery, weightlifting, climbing, shooting, wushu and other martial arts. The women's basketball team, coached by Christopher, has set a realistic target of finishing among the top eight. About 70 % of the squad are new players, with training based in Surabaya and efforts underway to include three Indonesia‑born athletes studying in the United States, pending university clearance.
