Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa Announces Automatic Tobacco Production Counting System

On 5 June 2026 Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that the government will install automated counting machines in all cigarette factories. The devices will record production volumes in real time and feed the data directly to customs to eliminate revenue leaks and detect violations. Installation is scheduled to begin next week and be completed across all plants within six months.

He also said a draft law to simplify the tobacco excise‑tax structure (the CHT layer) has been discussed informally but still requires DPR approval before it can take effect. In addition, Sadewa confirmed that the tobacco excise rate will remain unchanged in 2027, saying, "Saya buat konstan saja, enggak naik dan enggak turun," to maintain stability while strengthening enforcement against illegal cigarettes. "Sebentar Bea Cukai akan menjalankan mesin untuk mendeteksi penghitungan rokok secara otomatis," he added.
