Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa Labels Himself Unluckiest Minister at IMF Forum

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa told reporters after attending an International Monetary Fund and World Bank meeting in New York that he is "the most unlucky minister in the world." He cited a cascade of challenges since taking office, including large‑scale protests, pressure from the MSCI index, negative ratings from Fitch and Moody’s, and the shock of a war in Iran that rattled the global economy. Sadewa also noted that the government is preparing an internship program for workers who have been laid off.

He said the series of setbacks began immediately after his appointment, and despite recent efforts to calm rating agencies, the situation remains difficult.
