Indonesia fintech regulator urged to tighten debt‑collector licensing after abuse claim
Financial consultant Elvi Diana, CFP, called on Indonesia’s Fintech Association (AFPI) and the Financial Services Authority’s consumer protection unit (OJK) to conduct a comprehensive review of third‑party debt‑collection practices. The demand follows an alleged sexual harassment incident by a debt collector targeting a consumer in Purworejo, Central Java, who owed roughly 4.4 million rupiah.
Diana said the review must go beyond administrative checks and cover the full lifecycle of third‑party providers – from selection and supervision to performance monitoring. She urged AFPI to sanction firms such as Kredivo and KreditFazz, including the possible revocation of their collection licences, and suggested OJK consider a moratorium on new licences for collection agencies. The case was first reported on social media and has sparked public concern over consumer rights in Indonesia’s rapidly growing digital lending sector.
