Indonesia fire incidents claim civilian and firefighter lives
In Ketapang, West Kalimantan, a resident died after entering a thick smoke plume from a forest and land fire (karhutla). The victim likely lost consciousness from oxygen shortage, fell into the fire and was burned to death. An elderly resident also suffered burns and was evacuated to Dr. Agoesdjam Hospital for treatment. Firefighting teams are using water‑bombing helicopters to combat the blaze in several priority areas.
In Jakarta's Kramat Jati district, a fire department member died while connecting a water hose during a waste‑pile fire. The firefighter complained of chest pain, was taken to Harapan Bunda Hospital, but could not be revived. The response involved about 10 fire trucks and 50 personnel; the fire was later contained after dealing with underground hotspots.
