Indonesia focuses on food self-sufficiency and farmer regeneration
Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman is emphasizing food self-sufficiency and farmer regeneration as critical pillars for the nation's development toward 2045. During a regional meeting of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in South Sulawesi, Amran called for community and religious leadership support to oversee Indonesia's transformation into a sovereign, developed nation through food, energy, and protein independence.
To address the challenge of an aging farming population, the government is focusing on strengthening human resources and agricultural institutions. In Bone, the Sikola P4S Lamellong program, initiated by Universitas Hasanuddin, is working to empower young farmers through training modules, institutional management curricula, and technological innovation. This aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture's 2025–2029 strategic plan to modernize the sector and encourage youth participation through technological mastery and improved institutional management.
