Indonesia food prices fluctuate as Farmer Exchange Rate hits record high
National food prices in Indonesia showed varied trends as of early September 2026. Data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) indicates fluctuations across several key commodities. Red bird's eye chili prices reached levels between Rp77,000 and Rp78,100 per kg, while various types of onions and rice also saw price movements.
Protein prices remained relatively active, with chicken meat and beef prices recorded at various levels, and chicken eggs priced around Rp28,600 to Rp29,600 per kg. Other commodities such as sugar and cooking oil also maintained specific price points across retail markets.
In a broader agricultural context, the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) reached a record high of 129.19 in August 2026, a 1.05 percent increase from July. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), this growth was primarily driven by increased prices for commodities received by farmers, specifically paddy, palm oil, rubber, and broiler chicken, which outpaced the rising costs paid by farmers.
