John Herdman Prepares Indonesia Squad for AFF 2026 Amid Vietnam Challenge

Coach John Herdman is overseeing a two‑phase training camp for the Indonesia national football team in Bali ahead of the AFF Championship 2026. The first phase ran from 5 – 11 July with 50 players called up, after which a second phase is set for 14 – 25 July to trim the squad to the 23‑26 players who will compete in Group A alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia and Timor Leste.

Herdman said Vietnam, who began preparations on 22 June, is the tournament’s toughest opponent, but stressed that his squad is ready to test itself against the “well‑organised” side. He also expressed a desire for a future clash with regional rival Malaysia. The team will open the group stage against Cambodia on 27 July, face Vietnam on 3 August in Bogor, and conclude the group phase on 7 August against Singapore.

Individual players are also in focus. Midfielder Marc Klok highlighted his commitment during the camp, while striker Ole Romeny, still contracted to Oxford United, was mentioned after a mistaken Fortuna Sittard jersey post hinted at a possible move. Herdman remains confident that the Garuda can compete for the AFF trophy despite the strong competition.
