Indonesia is facing widespread forest and land fires (karhutla), with reports indicating that 41,554 hectares of land have been burned as of late October 2026. While approximately 14,873 hectares have been successfully extinguished through ground and aerial operations, 19,708 hotspots remain monitored across various provinces, including Central Kalimantan, South Sumatra, and West Kalimantan.

Law enforcement has taken significant action, naming 243 individuals and 14 corporations as suspects in connection with the fires. The legal proceedings involve 286 police reports for individuals, covering 5,856.84 hectares, and 104 reports for corporations, covering 29,168.78 hectares. President Prabowo Subianto has characterized these deliberate acts as “environmental terrorism.”

Aerial support, including water bombing and weather modification operations, is being deployed in several provinces.
