Indonesia forest fires burn around 9 hectares in Palangka Raya and Riau

A forest fire in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, burned approximately 1.91 hectares on July 8, 2026. Local fire officials responded with a Hilux vehicle, a pump, a nozzle and hoses, but the blaze had already been extinguished when they arrived. The city agency urged residents to stay alert and report any smoke.

In Riau province, a separate fire covering about 7 hectares was detected in Pulau Serdang village, Simpang Kanan district. Additional ground crews were dispatched from the Dumai operations area, and a drone was used to map the spread of the fire on peatland. Helicopter water‑bombing support was also deployed despite communication difficulties caused by poor cellular signal. The provincial meteorology agency reported 24 hot spots across Riau, with the highest concentration in Rokan Hilir and Siak regencies.
