Indonesia gains recognition as international football preseason tour destination

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, has welcomed the increasing number of international football clubs selecting Indonesia as a destination for preseason tours. This trend is seen as a positive sign that the nation's football atmosphere and sports industry are gaining global recognition.

Throughout August 2026, Indonesia is hosting several high-profile international matches. Following a successful match between Aston Villa and the Indonesia All-Stars on August 1, the schedule includes a clash between European giants Chelsea and AC Milan at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on August 8. The series will conclude on August 29 with a match between Brisbane Roar and Persija Jakarta at the Jakarta International Stadium.

Thohir noted that these events provide benefits beyond entertainment, helping to stimulate the national sports industry and related sectors, including tourism, hospitality, transportation, and small businesses.
