Indonesia Government Boosts Layoff Mitigation Dialogue in Digital Sector

The Indonesian government is intensifying its effort to prevent mass layoffs (PHK) by using a dialogue‑based approach, fact‑finding, and an early‑warning system. President’s Special Adviser on Labour, Said Iqbal, said officials will meet with workers, management of companies such as Tokopedia and TikTok, and the Ministry of Labour to obtain a full picture before any termination decisions are made. The Labour Ministry’s task force, Satgas PHK, monitors high‑risk sectors, verifies information, and promotes bipartite mediation to avert dismissals. The task force previously helped avoid layoffs for about 4,000 workers and will continue to act quickly on issues that could disrupt business stability, such as gas shortages and price spikes. The initiative aims to safeguard workers’ rights while maintaining a conducive environment for the national labour market.
