Indonesia government finalizes draft for Population Administration Bill

The Indonesian government has completed the coordination and signing of the Problem Inventory List (DIM) for the Population Administration Bill (RUU Adminduk). Seven ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Communication and Digital, and Ministry of National Development Planning, participated in the signing process in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The bill aims to modernize public services by strengthening the National Identity Number (NIK) into a Single Identity Number. This integration is intended to create a single source of truth for population data, improve the precision of development planning, and enhance personal data protection. The draft includes 1,027 points of inventory and 150 articles designed to modernize service delivery.

Officials noted that the NIK integration will require alignment with the ‘One Data Indonesia’ law. Regarding international travel documents, the Director General of Immigration stated that while passport numbering is governed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the government will conduct studies to ensure passports can work in conjunction with the NIK as a single identity system.
