Indonesia housing initiatives drive public-private collaboration

Efforts to improve housing welfare in Indonesia are being bolstered through collaborations between the government, the private sector, and humanitarian organizations. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, head of the Housing Task Force, emphasized that providing decent housing is essential for public welfare, noting that many citizens, including national heroes and their families, still lack adequate shelter.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait praised the ‘Rumah Cahaya’ initiative as a model for public-private partnership. He noted that the government cannot resolve housing issues alone and requires a ‘super team’ approach to ensure programs reach intended recipients, such as veterans and their families.

In a related initiative, Habitat for Humanity Indonesia organized ‘CEO Build 2026’ in Wanaherang, Bogor. Led by Edwin Soeryadjaja, more than 80 business executives and CEOs participated directly in the construction of 40 decent homes for low-income families. This program aims to encourage private sector involvement in creating inclusive and sustainable residential environments.
