Indonesia identifies mining firms seeking diesel imports despite B50 mandate

Indonesian Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has identified PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), a subsidiary of the Bakrie Group, as one of several mining entities still seeking diesel import permits. This comes despite the government’s implementation of the B50 mandatory biodiesel program, which utilizes a 50% palm oil mixture to eliminate diesel imports.

The B50 mandate has reportedly absorbed approximately half of Indonesia’s total annual diesel consumption, which stands at roughly 39 million kiloliters. Officials noted that the transition to high-blend biodiesel has helped shield the national economy from fossil fuel price volatility and has saved significant foreign exchange.
