Indonesia implements agricultural mitigation against El Nino impacts
Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture is implementing various mitigation strategies to combat the impacts of climate change and El Nino on the agricultural sector. To protect national coffee productivity, the ministry is focusing on soil and water conservation, providing adaptive seeds, and offering intensive guidance to farmers. Projections indicate that approximately 28 percent of coffee areas in mapped regions may face dry conditions between September and November 2026.
In Lamongan, East Java, authorities have successfully restored water access to 3,233 hectares of rice fields out of 3,450 hectares affected by drought. This recovery was achieved through irrigation channel normalization and pump optimization. While most districts have seen successful irrigation, some areas like Turi still require ongoing intervention.
In response to increasing environmental complexities and water scarcity risks, PT Berkat MyESICS Indonesia has launched MyESICS, a web-based digital platform. The technology is designed to assist companies in managing, monitoring, and reporting environmental data, specifically to improve water resource efficiency during dry periods.
