Xiaomi and Toyota drive EV developments in Indonesia
The electric vehicle (EV) landscape in Indonesia is seeing significant developments from major manufacturers. Xiaomi has confirmed its intention to expand its EV business into the Indonesian market, according to Country Director Michael Feng, though a specific launch timeline has not been established.
In the automotive sector, Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) reported high consumer enthusiasm for the Toyota bZ4X Touring. The all-wheel-drive SUV, which features a 74.69 kWh battery and an off-road capability mode, has seen vehicle order numbers exceed initial expectations following its appearance at GIIAS.
Safety and maintenance regulations are also evolving. New maritime guidelines in Indonesia require EV owners to maintain battery charge levels between 30 and 50 percent when transporting vehicles via inter-island ships to ensure safety. Additionally, industry experts emphasize battery longevity, noting that maintaining charge levels between 20 and 80 percent can help prevent premature degradation.
