Indonesia implements middleman oversight to stabilize poultry prices

The Indonesian government is taking steps to stabilize the prices of chicken and eggs by addressing distribution anomalies. Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian reported that recent efforts to regulate middlemen have begun to lower consumer prices following a period of inflation.

Karnavian noted a discrepancy where producer-level prices remained low while consumer prices rose, suggesting that intermediaries were contributing to price hikes. In response, the government has coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and law enforcement agencies to monitor the supply chain and ensure a healthier trading mechanism.

In Tangerang, local authorities are actively monitoring traditional markets, including Pasar Anyar, Pasar Malabar, and Pasar Poris Indah. Current reports indicate that broiler egg prices in Tangerang are approximately Rp26,000 per kilogram, which remains below the maximum retail price (HET) of Rp28,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram.
