Indonesia implements ‘Omnibus Law Plus’ to support migrant workers

The Indonesian government is implementing a new approach termed ‘Omnibus Law Plus’ to address the complexities facing Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) and citizens abroad. Announced by Minister of Migrant Worker Protection Mukhtarudin during a forum in Kuala Lumpur, the strategy moves beyond administrative coordination toward direct inter-ministerial action to resolve legal and social issues.

In a related development, Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Agus Andrianto visited the Semenyih Immigration Detention Depot in Selangor, Malaysia, to meet with 46 Indonesian migrant workers detained for immigration violations. During the visit, the Minister symbolically handed over travel documents (SPLP) and provided financial assistance for return tickets.

Minister Andrianto noted that cooperation with Malaysian immigration authorities remains strong and expressed hope that the workers could return to Indonesia within ten days once their documentation is finalized. He also advised the workers against future illegal entry or employment in foreign countries.
