Central Kalimantan extends emergency status for forest fires

The emergency response status for forest and land fires in Central Kalimantan has been extended for 31 days, lasting from October 30 through November 30, 2026. Governor Agustiar Sabran stated that the decision to lift the status depends on weather developments and real field conditions, noting that BMKG forecasts suggest weather improvements may begin in mid-November.

In Palangka Raya, the municipal government is planning to build reservoirs and rehabilitate canals to mitigate future fires, specifically targeting peatland areas. Meanwhile, the Coordinating Ministry for Food has deployed 175 teams to Palangka Raya, involving government agencies, security forces, and private sector partners like APHI and GAPKI, to prioritize fire suppression near the local airport.

In Kutai Kartanegara, local officials have requested additional central government funding, arguing that the current 15 billion IDR allocation is insufficient to cover the scale of regional responsibilities and disaster recovery costs.
