Indonesia implements PM-AAS technology to modernize rice farming

The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, through the Balai Besar Penerapan Modernisasi Pertanian (BRMP), is implementing the Advanced Agriculture System (PM-AAS) to modernize rice cultivation across several provinces.

In Aceh Jaya, a pilot program has launched covering 314 hectares. Officials expect this modern method to increase rice yields from 6 tons to 10 tons per hectare, potentially raising farmer profits from approximately Rp35 million to between Rp60 million and Rp70 million. The program aims to cover 34,500 hectares in Aceh by December 2026. The system utilizes denser planting techniques and technical support, including the distribution of seeders.

In Bali, officials from the Gianyar Agriculture Office visited a 100-hectare PM-AAS pilot site in Jembrana to study the technology. The goal is to adopt these modern practices in Gianyar to reduce production costs, increase efficiency, and address labor shortages, while ensuring the technology remains compatible with local subak irrigation institutions and land contours.
